Spode Castle Dinner Plate c.1820

A Spode pale blue transfer printed pearlware plate in the Castle pattern. The pattern is an adaption of an aquatint of 'The Gate of Sebastian at Capena' from 'Views of Rome and its Vicinity' published by Merigot and Edwards 1786-98. Drakard and Holdway believe the pattern was introduced after 1806. The plate is impressed SPODE and 44. The plate dates to c.1820 and has a pearlware body rather than the New Fianece body introduced late in the 1820s.

The plate is 9.8 inches (24.8cm) in diameter and weighs 410g.

The plate is in very good condition. There is no damage and no restoration, just a couple of very minor utensil marks.
