Minton English Scenery Dinner Plate c.1825

A Minton pearlware soup plate transfer printed in blue with the Watermill scene from the Monk's Rock Series. The pattern is identified as made by Minton in Priestman's book Minton Printed Pottery 1796-1836. Priestman dates the pattern to c.1815-1820.

The plate is 9.5 inches (24cm) wide and weighs 390g.

There is no damage or restoration. There is a short 0.4 inch long slight ridge on the back rim of the plate - the glaze on this has worn through allowing it to discolour. There are a couple of pieces of debris in the glaze around the rim - the largest is illustrated. The glaze is crazed and there is a little discolouration to parts of the reverse. There are a large number of utensil marks in the well, unusual for a soup plate, and a little abrasive wear to parts of the glaze probably from stacking.
