Swansea Long Bridge Dinner Plate c.1810

A pearlware plate transfer printed in the Long Bridge pattern. The plate has an ochre rim and is unmarked apart from an impressed cross. The plate is probably by the Swansea factory.

Robert Copeland classified the variants of this pattern, this plate corresponds to Type G, a Swansea example. There are two differences in this plate from Copeland's marked example - it does not have an impressed Swansea mark and Copeland's plate has a footrim. The print and painted rim match exactly - the plate is therefore probably Swansea.

he plate has a diameter of 9.75 inches (24.8cm) and weighs 390g.

The plate is in very good condition. There is just a 0.2 inch flake off the edge of the ochre rim, as illustrated. There are no other chips, cracks, or restoration. There are a few utensil marks to the well.
